Professional Social Worker – Tabassum


Tabassum belongs to Chandigarh, is 31 years old. She holds a Master’s Degree in Applied Psychology from Annamalai University and has done B.Ed and Post Graduate diploma in guidance and counselling from Panjab University, Chandigarh. She currently is pursuing Masters in social work from IGNOU.
Her journey as a professional social worker began 9 years ago at the young age of 22, with her first project for school dropout girls in an urban slum of Chandigarh, which affirmed her decision of becoming a professional social worker. Her mother’s courage and support in-spite of all hurdles of societal and cultural pressures, is her constant source of inspiration to give back to society and support them in becoming self-dependent. Right from her school and college days she had a dedication to serve the society. She actively participated in Polio Eradication Camps, tree plantation and health campaigns as NSS volunteer. She feels society can be empowered by equipping with the tool of knowledge through awareness for sustainable change.
In the short span of her professional life she has managed projects in different areas of development like policy implementation (RTE Section 12.1.c), HIV/AIDS, Empowerment of school dropout adolescent girls through skill development and education, youth development, peace activities at grass root level in the community.
She has worked with NGO-Yuvsatta as Project and advocacy coordinator – Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society as Counsellor and; a Delhi based PAN India startup Indus Action Initiatives as Partner Lead. Besides her professional engagements she is an active volunteer in Global Youth Peace Fest with Yuvsatta and V-shesh organisation. Her strength lies in creating and sustaining a strong network of affiliated organisations, community stakeholders and government departments working towards the similar goal.
What makes her day is when she receives feedback from community and observes community efficiently bridging the gap themselves through courage of knowledge and smile. Her work gives her satisfaction.

1. Awarded with best reporting unit at AIDSCON-2016, Chandigarh.
2. Facilitated with Award of Honour in Global Youth Peace Fest organized by NGO-Yuvsatta in 2016.
3. Best NCC cadet (Air wing) award in 2008, Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh.
