The Harbinger of Social Change & Development

Disha was formed in 2012 by a  group of ladies, to provide a new meaning to Voluntary Social Work and bring about a positive change in the lives of the Marginalized groups, specially women and children.

Disha began its activities at the Panchayat Ghar of Village Kajeri, with a Library for children and teen-aged girls, stitching classes, Grooming and Beautician course and Summer Camps for the personality development of Children and the girls.

Preparatory Education: Disha has undertaken to prepare the little girls of the underprivileged sections, for Admission to regular schools. These girls are used as housemaids by their parents to bring – up the siblings, cook, wash and clean the hut-ment ; while the Mother and Father is away to work as household help, gardeners, labourers or similar services.

Hygiene kits are provided to them containing soap, oil, shampoo, toothbrush, paste, etc to inculcate a habit of cleanliness.

The parents of the girls are counselled to make them free for admission to school, after the early preparatory education at Disha Centre.

Disha helps in admission to a nearby school by getting their bank account opened, Aadhaar or Affidavits prepared and other documentation.

The girls are given something to eat every day when they attend classes.

Disha has undertaken production of Audio Books for the Visually Impaired and has established a Recording Studio for this purpose.

Volunteers from different Colleges, Panjab University, Employed Boys and Girls and some elders also give their voice, for Recording Audio Books. These books are used by the Visually Impaired, all over the Country & Abroad. They are available for streaming and downloading from:

They are also sent to Sugamya Pustakalaya being run by the Daisy Forum of India, which has a membership of over 20,000.
