My name is Divya Sharma and I am 22 years old. I was born in Chandigarh on 23rd June. I have recently completed my Bachelor’s degree in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering from Punjab Engineering College. Since 2017, I have dedicated myself to Punarkriti Welfare Society as a volunteer. My inspiration for social services comes from my parents and sisters.
In the beginning of my journey, I focussed on participating in the annual collection drives which gathered monetary funds and essential items for underprivileged families, including textbooks for students. I always believed that education was imperative, but the health of an individual was indeed of paramount importance. Hence, I started donating on my own for the health and welfare of children with medical needs.
Later on, I crossed paths with an NGO named Bhumi which collaborated with Punarkriti to record curriculum textbooks for the visually-impaired students. I was fascinated by this idea of creating audio books and was deeply enthusiastic to record my part. It gave me immense motivation to continue utilizing my voice for good. Meanwhile, I was also selected as one of the heads of Punarkriti’s Project ABC. I used this platform to hone my teaching skills by conducting a couple of on-site lectures at a government school, and also encouraged more and more students to do so.
Finally, Punarkriti as a team, joined hands with NGO Disha to develop extensive audio books for higher education of students in diverse fields like political science, computation and communications. The whole experience was highly stimulating and engaging, and I learned a lot from it. I hope to continue my journey of social service along with other future endeavours. I am also looking forward to working on compelling matters like animal safety and the environment.
