I am Rima Singh, a graduate (B.Tech in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, Batch 2016-20) from Punjab Engineering College, (Deemed to be University). I was born on. 11 August 1998 in a district of Hoshiarpur, Punjab and brought up in Chandigarh.
My inspiration came from my father who is always willing to help others despite limited availability of resources. He tries to find a way to do that. The other inspiration is when you see happiness reflecting from the faces of person being helped.
The journey started from teaching a bunch of those children whose families can’t afford a good school. As a part of ‘AABHA Project’ in NSS at college. I can recall of a girl child who wasn’t willing to learn from any student. Then I exchanged that child from my friend and taught her a poem in form of a game a story. Then she did really learn and behaved properly. This made me understands that we as a child want someone to understand us and teach us in a polite manner because many of us have been deprived of love due to many reasons. This inspired me more to do something for others in a positive way, even when we don’t have money to spend. There are many ways to do that. Thus I became a part of NGO-Punarkriti and ended up being Secretary. As a part of this NGO I volunteered for “National Volunteering Week” to record books for visual impaired students, was a part of “Your Step Counts” in which we collect books and clothes which we distribute to old age homes or orphanages. I also taught children of Nayagaon and was a part of collection drive for Kerala Floods in collaboration with other college and collected around 57k with other basic amenities. I am grateful to DISHA-NGO for letting us record for visually impaired students. I thank my fellow students for helping to record textbooks for the visually impaired, during this pandemic making the best of our time during Home- Stay.
I will always be ready for any social activity that uplifts society and help them grow in adverse conditions at my best.
